The work problem

According to a press release Ochsner Health and Paradigm Health issued jointly on August 12, 2026, Ochsner sought to expand trial participation across its network from its multiple trial sites throughout Louisiana, but clinical research coordinators faced substantial manual effort to identify and review potentially eligible patients. It needed an efficient way to assess eligibility across a large patient population spanning 47 hospitals and 370 health centers.

Technology and data

Ochsner connected Paradigm Health's patient recruitment platform, which is based on large language models, to its electronic health records and other clinical data sources so that patients' medical records are continuously evaluated against clinical trial eligibility criteria. The platform reassesses patients' eligibility as they progress through their care and brings trial recruitment into routine patient visits. Research staff review the eligibility of only the most likely candidates and spend the time saved meeting patients directly and supporting them through trial enrollment.

Results

According to the release, the platform increased screening capacity, meaning the number of patients clinically considered for trial participation, by 41%, identified 3.6 times as many patients who were not yet eligible but could become eligible as their care progressed, and reduced clinical research coordinators' manual effort by 75%.

Limits and open questions

The release does not disclose the period over which the results were measured or how many patients actually enrolled in trials.
