Summary

Google DeepMind and Google Cloud announced they will give up to 200 top European researchers direct access to frontier models, together with $3 million in compute credits. Researchers will be able to use scientific tools including AlphaFold 3, WeatherNext, AlphaGenome, AlphaEvolve and AlphaEarth Foundations. The pledge supports the European Union's RAISE initiative, which aims to bridge the compute gap European scientists sometimes face.

Why it matters for our work

When frontier models and compute that individual labs could rarely afford are opened through public-private schemes, research work such as weather prediction and genome analysis can speed up. The access scale of 200 researchers and $3 million is set by the provider.
