The work problem
TK Elevator technicians had to ask where an elevator was and locate handwritten service records and lengthy technical manuals on site. Sometimes they discovered missing tools late and returned to the vehicle. After the job, they wrote notes in an uncomfortable vehicle workspace. Sensor readings alone could not bring together diagnostic knowledge from manuals and previous technicians' experience.
Technology and data
The company built an agent app using Microsoft Foundry and Azure OpenAI on connected-equipment data, service history and technical documentation on Azure. On a phone or tablet, it briefs technicians before a visit about the elevator's location, issue and necessary tools. Afterward, a voice agent records the technician's account and asks follow-up questions for missing details. Technicians inspect the equipment and decide on action using their own judgment, while the new records become knowledge for later maintenance.
Results
Microsoft's on-site reporting describes actual use: a technician searches manuals and previous service history in the field and records work without typing. TK Elevator representatives explain that field feedback supports more precise troubleshooting and breakdown prevention. The story gives company scale of 25,000 technicians and 1.4 million maintained units worldwide, but does not state an adoption rate showing that all use the app.
Limits and open questions
App user numbers, adoption start month and numerical improvements in service time or breakdown rate are not disclosed. This is not autonomous elevator repair or replacement of the field technician's judgment.
