The work problem

GXO logistics facilities involve repetitive material handling, including moving totes. GXO and Agility Robotics chose to assign this work to humanoid robots in a live warehouse alongside existing automation. The case concerns actual tote transfer onto conveyors, not merely the release of a new robot.

Technology and data

Following a proof of concept at Flowery Branch, Georgia, the companies signed a multi-year Robots-as-a-Service agreement in June 2024. GXO deployed Digit humanoids and Agility Arc, a cloud platform for fleet management and integration into customer operations. Digit moves totes and places them on conveyors alongside existing automation. The announcement describes a physical AI deployment but does not disclose the sensor input configuration, training data or specific procedures for human intervention.

Results

In their joint announcement on October 26, 2026, the companies said Digit had moved more than 100,000 totes at Flowery Branch. This is cumulative throughput at that facility, not a labor or cost reduction rate. They also announced expansion into e-commerce fulfillment in Statesville, North Carolina, and Lebanon, Tennessee. Deployment at those two additional sites is expected to begin in early 2027 and is not counted as current operating output.

Limits and open questions

Robot counts by site, handling error rates, cost savings and changes in worker injuries are not established. Supplier-wide operating hours are not attributed to the single GXO facility.
