The work problem

Liberty Global said it is accelerating the use of AI across its businesses to make customer interactions easier, more intuitive and more effective. The company explained that it wants AI agents to handle routine and increasingly complex inquiries so that customer-care teams can spend more of their time on situations that require human judgment and deep expertise.

Technology and data

On September 23, 2026, Liberty Global announced a three-year strategic partnership with Sierra, a conversational AI platform company, to roll out Sierra's technology across its operating companies. According to the company, the framework agreement gives its businesses a common way to deploy AI agents that talk with customers in natural language across chat, voice and text. The company said it will apply the platform in phases across about 80 million fixed and mobile connections in Europe, with use cases and the channel mix tailored to the requirements of individual markets, brands and customers. Chairman and CEO Mike Fries said the group will combine Sierra's technology and deployment expertise with the deep knowledge of its local teams.

Results

Liberty Global said implementation has already started. Chairman and CEO Mike Fries said the deployment will improve customer experience across the group by making customer journeys simpler, faster and more effective.

Limits and open questions

The announcement describes only a phased rollout plan and does not say which operating companies and channels will go live or when. With no performance figures such as handled volumes or service times disclosed, the effect cannot be assessed yet.
