The work problem

DoorDash says millions of people dash each year. Before a first delivery, new Dashers have plenty of questions, such as how to schedule a dash, what a hotspot is and when they get paid. The company wrote that getting through that first delivery is a big part of whether someone keeps dashing. It wanted new Dashers to get the answer they need at the moment they need it, without knowing the app or the help centre inside and out and without calling support.

Technology and data

DoorDash launched DashBuddy, an AI-powered assistant. New Dashers can send a text over SMS and get an answer without calling support, even if they do not know the app or the help centre inside and out. It mainly handles questions from Dashers who are signing up or preparing for their first dash. The company is also testing a Voice Mode so that Dashers can talk to DashBuddy on a call.

Results

According to DoorDash, more than 200,000 Dashers had used DashBuddy as of September 2026. Based on DoorDash internal data from July to September 2026, DashBuddy resolved around 95% of questions from Dashers signing up or preparing for their first dash. In the same data, Dashers who talked to DashBuddy before their first dash were more likely to complete one within three days of the chat. DashBuddy is live across the United States and Canada.

Limits and open questions

The figures come from DoorDash internal data, and the source neither defines a resolved question nor gives comparison figures for completing a first dash. It also does not explain how questions DashBuddy cannot answer are passed to human agents.
