The work problem

Borouge International needed to improve plant availability and productivity while reducing energy use and emissions and maintaining safety. As it expanded AI and digitalization from production to the supply chain, the company was building capabilities to analyze operating information quickly and support decisions. Real-time optimization of ethane crackers in the UAE is one workflow with confirmed deployment.

Technology and data

The company reports an already deployed AI-enabled real-time optimization system across three large ethane crackers and 20 furnaces in the UAE. It analyzes more than 2,500 operating parameters per minute to support production and energy decisions. The approach connects optimization expertise, AI and real-time operational intelligence. Expansion to North America and other regions remains planned. The Honeywell autonomous-operations proof of concept in the same release is a separate project; this record does not assume the optimization system controls equipment without human approval.

Results

The company says the deployed system supports faster data-driven decisions, higher productivity, lower energy consumption and reduced emissions. It does not disclose a measured improvement rate or savings attributable specifically to this system. The release's value-generation target for 2027 and potential gains from the autonomous-operations trial are not presented as achieved results of the operating optimization system.

Limits and open questions

Model architecture, individual input parameters and operator approval procedures were not established. International expansion and a fully autonomous control room are not included in the completed operating scope.
