The work problem

Lenovo said its supply chain spans 180 markets, more than 30 factories, 100 logistics centers and 2,000 suppliers, and handles more than 14 million order lines each year. The company had invested for years in Supply Chain Intelligence, which gave its teams end to end visibility and stronger risk monitoring. Planners still spent much of their time searching across systems for information, investigating exceptions, assessing impact and coordinating with other teams, the company said.

Technology and data

Under its Lenovo Powers Lenovo approach, the company used its own supply chain as the proving ground. According to the case study, AI capabilities were introduced and iChain was established in 2022, and the first use cases went live between 2022 and 2024. The early use cases covered order fulfillment, KPI intelligence and risk management. iChain works on top of existing transaction systems, tools, databases and models rather than replacing them. Agents in an AI control tower monitor conditions, analyze impact, recommend actions and pass approved decisions to downstream workflows. The Order Fulfillment Agent watches delivery commitments, finds orders at risk, pinpoints root causes, simulates recovery options, recommends a response and supports execution. The Risk Management Agent monitors internal and external signals, evaluates business impact, recommends mitigation, supports virtual war room collaboration and tracks execution through a closed loop process. Lenovo said it trained its supply network teams, designed the experience around natural language interaction, and kept stable processes and expert review for high risk and exceptional cases. The system went through enterprise architecture, security and internal compliance review and is now offered to customers.

Results

Lenovo said delivery accuracy improved by 30% as part of its broader digital supply chain transformation. The case study labels this figure as delivery accuracy or on time fulfillment. The company said fulfillment decisions and execution became three times faster, risk assessment accuracy reached 85%, and risk response became four times faster.

Limits and open questions

The 30% gain is presented as a result of the broader digital supply chain transformation, not of iChain alone. The threefold, 85% and fourfold figures come without a measurement period or baseline, and the method behind the 85% figure is not described. The case study gives only the year 2022 for establishing iChain. No adoption month is given, so the record is ordered by the publication date.
